Oksana Tsimbalova will be the coach for the Junior Spring Program, working under the direction of Nereid’s coach, Boris Roque.

Ms. Tsimbalova was born in Uzbekistan, then part of the former Soviet Union.  She began rowing at age 14, won her first national championship at 17 in the pair without coxswain and became a member of the national rowing team.  She earned a bachelors degree in physical education from Samarkand State University.  She has worked in sport school with children and juniors, coaching a number to national and world championship titles.  She has resided in the U.S. since 2003, currently in Lodi, NJ with her family, and works as a physical therapist and personal coach.

B.  Program Description and Cost
The Junior Spring program is intended for those whose High Schools do not have Rowing teams.  The program will cost $500.  The program is designed for 16 rowers.  If more participants sign up for the program, Nereid will try to accommodate the additional numbers but cannot guarantee participation.  Preference will be given first to those in High School and then to those in 8th Grade.

The 16 rowers will be split into four groups, with each group participating in 60-minute sessions on the water.   Participants with no rowing experience are welcome to attend, but need to understand that there will be no refund if the participant decides to drop out of the program.  Nereid offers other Learn to Row programs that may be more appropriate for a participant who is not committed to complete the program. The coaches will decide in which group the participant will belong.  This may change during the season.  The focus of the program is to develop technical skills, fitness and prepare athletes for races if capable.

The dates for the Junior Spring Program are scheduled for:

3/16 through 5/23 Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat (Group 1 & 2 4-5:15PM) (Group 3 & 4 5:15-6:30PM)

For the first few weeks of the program, water time will be dependent on the temperature, weather, water conditions and daylight.  Land practice will occur if the coaches decide conditions are not appropriate for water practice.  Practice times could be extended through 5/31 if weather caused cancellation of practices that could not be made up.

There are no plans to travel to regattas.  The coaches will determine when participants are ready to participate in competition and set up races locally.
