MEMBERSHIP AND BOAT STORAGE FEES
DUE APRIL 25TH
A reminder to all members that invoices for membership, boat
storage and locker fees are due back by APRIL
25th. In order to
maintain membership privileges, please be sure to remit payment. Current
members will be posted on the bulletin board next to the log sheet and only
those paid up will be allowed to row. Any questions regarding status of
payments should be addressed to Phil Gartenberg at Nereidjoin@hotmail.com
PLEASE NOTE: not all club boats are
properly rigged yet. Boats that are missing shoes, seats or have loose
riggers are not to be rowed, and we ask club members not to take it on
themselves to find parts. We hope to have the fleet in order this weekend
and will publish and post the boat list in the very near future.

MANNY FLICK RESULTS IN
Local high school favorites did very well in the Manny Flicks
series of races held throughout March. The Nereid-based teams of Montclair and Teaneck, along with
Ridgewood and Don Bosco, which have rowers in Nereid’s summer and fall
programs, placed among the top boats in the region.
Detailed results are available at:
http://www.phillyflicks.com/
Congrats and keep up the good work!
HIGH
SCHOOL CREWS COME FOR PANCAKES
Nereid
will host informal pancake breakfasts for the two high school crews that row
out of our boathouse: Montclair and Teaneck.
Members are invited to stop by to say hello to the kids and coaches on Saturday,
April 18, at 10:30 for the Montclair breakfast or Saturday, May 2, at 10:30 for
the Teaneck breakfast.
Chef Briant will be cooking. Anyone who
wants to lend a hand in serving, cleaning up or otherwise
volunteering is
welcome!
ONE
MORE PADDLER NEEDED FOR MAY 16 CANOE RELAY
Team Nereid needs one more rower to join in for the Passaic River Paddle race on May 16. The race on
the 8-mile course is a lot of fun, takes about an hour or so, and takes paddlers
to parts of the Passaic where rowers don’t normally go. Our team won last year, netting prizes for
Nereid including trophies and a PFD for the club. Aluminum canoes are
provided; all you have to do is show up!
The
5th Annual Event is sponsored by the Lower Passaic Watershed
Alliance, the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners, and the Essex County
Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs will run the 5th Annual
Passaic River Paddle Relay! The Paddle starts at Riverbank Park in Newark
and ends at Nereid, with the course divided into three legs for each six-person
team. There is also an individual kayak
race.
If you are interested in joining Team Nereid, please email Marc De Mul at mdemul@gmail.com
GET READY FOR NATIONAL LEARN TO
ROW DAY
National Learn to Row Day will
take place Saturday, June 6th, from 9 am to 12 pm.
Last year's successful program
drew dozens of people interested in rowing – so many, in fact, that we didn’t
have enough Nereid volunteers on hand to help them. This year, the board
made the decision to consolidate the Nereid Open House, normally held in April,
with Learn to Row Day, to maximize turnout of prospective rowers and Nereid volunteers. Please
set some time aside to help either in planning the event, or working with
visitors on the day of. Help is needed
in:
Please contact Phil Gartenberg at Nereidjoin@hotmail.com to let him know when you are
available to help out.
LEARN TO TIP SESSION PLANNED
Nereid is planning a tipping
drill this spring at the Rutherford Y to help rowers learn to manage flips and
re-entry into a boat. This drill is highly recommended to new rowers, and to experienced rowers as a refresher. To help us plan the sessions, please indicate
your interest in participating by emailing Phil Gartenberg at Nereidjoin@hotmail.com
DRIVING TO BOSTON?
