FLOOD RECOVERY DAY SATURDAY

With little rain Thursday or Friday, the threat of Passaic River flooding is greatly diminished, making it possible to go forward with our club flood-recovery/work day tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, at 8:30 a.m. The Friday morning high tide carried water into the parking lot and up to the steps leading into the boat bays. While the Passaic is set to crest at Little Falls early Saturday a.m., Rutherford police do not expect flooding in our area this weekend.

Please come!!  And wear old clothes, good shoes/boots (no flip flops or crocs) and bring a shovel!!

In other flood-recovery news:

ROWING PROHIBITED: The ban remains in effect; we hope to reinstate rowing over the weekend depending on water speed and debris levels.

MASTERS PROGRAM POSTPONED: The start of the coached masters’ program is postponed until Tuesday, September 13. Places are still available, and at $100 for 15 sessions this program is a steal! Email sheila.oshea@comcast.net to get on board.

BOAT REPAIR: Boris plans to drive a trailer to Shell Repair on Monday, September 12. Anyone who wishes to send a boat for repair should contact Sheila O’Shea ASAP at sheila.oshea@comcast.net

FLOOD AID: Due to the prohibitive cost, Nereid does not have flood insurance. Sheila O’Shea and Cheryl King have been exploring options for state or federal funding to assist with the clean-up costs. Nereid does not qualify for FEMA assistance but we may be able to secure a low-interest loan.

HELP THE HOPR FIND SPONSORS

A note from Nereid’s Bonnie Pugel and PRRA’s Jay Tuchinda, sponsorship co-chairs for the 2011 Head of the Passaic Regatta:

Hello Nereid members, friends and family:

We plan to make the 2011 Head of the Passaic Regatta the best ever.  But we need your assistance in finding potential sponsors—and our deadline is just two weeks away!

Sponsorship is a great way for businesses and organizations to demonstrate their support for rowing and showcase their names before a large, tri-state area audience. Last year, the races drew more 2,000 participants and spectators. And we had hundreds of hits on the HOPR website.

Sponsors receive high visibility on race day, in our printed program, on the Head of Passaic Regatta website and in all media outreach. This year, we are offering sponsorship for every budget with five levels of participation ranging from $50 to $1,500.  Our pricing information is attached to this email.

The sponsorship process is easy. If you have a relationship with a particular individual at a business or organization, we ask that you reach out to them about making a donation. Once they agree, notify us, and we will follow-up with pricing information and options for advertisement placement. We just need your help in getting us in touch with the right people.

The deadline for printing is September 20, so we need fast action!

For more info, please contact Bonnie at 973 655 1561 or bjpugel@comcast.net or Jay at jay@tuchinda.com, 646 320 1023.

Please join us in putting on another successful Head of The Passaic Regatta!  Thanks in advance for your help.

NEW MEMBER

A hearty welcome to new member Billy Goodman, a graduate of the Nereid Learn to Row program, whose son Nate rows for Montclair High and whose daughter Sally rows for Princeton University.  See you on the water Billy!

NEREID TEES AND TANKS

Club member Erik King has printed up some fine-looking Nereid shirts, including sleeveless, nylon tanks and traditional Nereid cotton tees. All have the Nereid logo on the front and a big green “x” on the back. The men’s tanks include either light-weight or heavy-weight double mesh; the women’s tank has a v-neck. Prices range from $10-$20.  Please see Erik around the club if you’d like to buy a shirt.  Thanks Erik for organizing those!
