AGM March 20
Nereid's Annual General Membership Meeting will take place March 20th at 10 a.m. at the club. All members are warmly invited and strongly encouraged to attend -- we need your participation to move forward on club business:

Club members will be asked to vote on nominees for three open seats on the board of directors. The board's recommended nominees are: Elinor Sprouse, Diane Goodsell and Phillip Watrelot.
Board directors will provide updates on: finance, the soft bank project, potential 2011 membership increase and programs.
Boris will be on hand to help members coordinate regular "meet-ups' for rowers of all abilities.

Bagels provided. See you there.

DOCKS IN
The docks are in! Rowing is allowed subject to these restrictions:

NO SINGLES ROWING until further notice. Those who violate this rule risk sanctions as outlined in the member's handbook.
Cold Weather: Do not row unaccompanied in weather of 45°F or less, or water temperature of 45°F or less. There are thermometers on the boathouse (south bay door) and on the dock for submersion in water.
Darkness: Boats must have proper bow and stern lighting, as prescribed by USRA.

JUNIOR AND HIGH SCHOOL SEASONS BEGIN
The Nereid Junior team -- 26 strong this year -- practices 4-6 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Rowers will train indoors until it is possible to go on the water, most likely around March 15.

High schools will begin practicing next week. Please be prepared for heavy boat traffic on the river in the late afternoon and early evening.

CONGRATS ERG CHAMPS!
Congrats to Nereid member Rob Welsh for an outstanding time of 6:29.3 at Crash-Bs, which placed him 14th out of 49 in the Men's Masters 30-39.

Thanks to the hard work and determination of 26 club rowers, Nereid came in 6th among rowing clubs and 23rd overall of the 315 teams participating in Concept2's Virtual Erg Challenge. Our rowers did an average of 183,277 kms each -- outstanding! The top three Nereid men were: Adrian Nino-De-Rivera, Sean Cefalo and Frank Schaefer. Top three women were Diane Goodsell, Stacey Ornitz and Elinor Sprouse. Thanks to Marc Monplaisir and Glenn Gero for motivating the team!

PASSAIC REGATTA APRIL 10; VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
On April 10th, the river will host the USRowing-sanctioned Passaic River Northern New Jersey Championship Regatta. Sixteen schools from northern New Jersey are expected to race the course, a 1500m straight-a-way from Kearny to North Arlington. The athlete's village will be at PRRA. The race will start at the Rutgers Street bridge and finish at the new PVSC site at the bend in the river. We have an exciting day of racing planned, with time trials in the morning and Henley style finishes in the afternoon.

OLYMPIC MEDALIST AT CHARITY ERG-O-THON
River Rowing Association is hosting its 4th Annual Pull-With-Purpose, a charity erg-a-thon to benefit the Nyack Center. US Olympian Michelle Guerette will be on hand all day; she might even show off her silver medal from Beijing!

The event will take place Saturday, March 13 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Nyack Center, 58 Depew Avenue, Nyack NY. Registration opens at 9am.

Teams of 5+ will row in relay for two hours to compete for the most meters. The minimum donation is $25 per rower. Pledge sheets, registration and rules can be found on at www.riverrowing.org

The Nyack Center is a not-for-profit organization working to enrich the lives of low-income families in the area. Each summer River Rowing teams up with them to provide a free summer rowing program for kids.

That evening, River Rowing will hold its annual dinner with Michelle Guerette as featured guest speaker. The event goes 5 to 8 pm, with a live band until 10. All are invited. See www.riverrowing.org.
