NEW BRIDGE POLICY
To ensure the safety of all rowers during NJDOT's Route 3 construction project, the Nereid Board of Directors has issued new safety guidelines governing rowing through the Route 3 Bridge and the railroad bridge to its south. As of immediate effect, the following policy applies:
- Learn-to-row and novice rowers are NOT allowed to row through the bridges
- Junior rowers must ALWAYS be accompanied by a coached launch while rowing through the bridges
- Experienced rowers who wish to row through the bridges must request the Captain's permission in writing and sign a waiver acknowledging the risks of rowing under the bridges.
For the purposes of this policy, an "experienced rower" is defined as having sufficient skill and safety awareness of the river and a minimum of two seasons' on-water rowing experience
.
- Experienced rowers who wish to row with their experienced minor children must request permission from the captain.
Experienced rowers may email their request to Captain Sheila O'Shea at sheila.oshea@comcast.net. Once Sheila has replied in writing, rowers may sign a bridge waiver, available in an envelope on the office door of the club.
As always, Nereid's Captain, Safety Officer and board members reserve the right to suspend rowing anytime river conditions warrant additional safety measures. Please watch for alerts via e-mail and on the Nereid website.
