NEREID ROWERS EXCEL AT NATIONALS
Nereid rowers had a fantastic weekend Aug 12-15 at US Master’s Nationals, with four gold medals and numerous other strong performances.

Andrea Hurwitz, rowing with Vesper, won three golds in the women’s 8+, 4+ and 4x. As reported earlier, Nereid’s Marc Monplaisir and PRRA’s Jim Benz won gold in the men’s heavyweight 2x finals. Other results include:
Charlie Johnston, 4th place, Men’s lightweight C 1x
Rob Welsh, 6th place, Men’s AA 1x
Eric Hagberg, 5th, Men’s lightweight 1x
Marc Monplaisir, 4th in heat 3, Men’s B 1x
Andrea Hurwitz, with PRRA member Clemens Reinke, 4th place in mixed 2x.

PIECES SATURDAY AM?
Looking for a good workout this weekend? Nereid members Andrea Hurwitz and Erik King are inviting any interested club members to turn out Saturday to row pieces. Start time is 8:30.

BOATHOUSE PROJECT ADVANCES
All “southside” boats can be moved back to their homes following the installation this week of a monitoring well near the doubles racks. The well will test the groundwater in the area that housed underground storage tanks, which were removed this past spring. Please be cautious in moving around the well cap. Check out Nereid’s FB page for photos.

The club is still working to resolve a few issues with the state Department of Environmental Protection, but the project managers are confident enough about resolving them that they have given Nereid’s consultants the go-ahead to start the final project design. That should be complete by early fall. Nereid also reactivated its application to the Tidelands Bureau of DEP for the license required for the dock and other areas below the high tide line. Once the final design is completed and remediation issues are resolved, it will go to DEP Green Acres for approval. After that, the club will look to bid and schedule the work.

PVSC PLANS TO CLEAR DEBRIS
Brian Davenport of PVSC informed Nereid that his team will remove large branches in and around our dock this coming week. Brian also indicated that the skimming schedule has been irregular because of difficulty moving PVSC’s large, Newark-based skimmer through the Clay Street and Bridge Street bridges. Servicing and replacement of motors at both bridges is responsible for the delays. Brian is hopeful the big skimmer will be on duty on our section of the river by the end of August. SHOES STILL MISSING
Shoes for the men’s heavyweight Empacher 8+ are missing. They were last seen in the fall when the boat was derigged. If you know anything about the shoes, please email Frank Schaefer at Schaefer_67@hotmail.com.

NEREID TO HOST USROWING MEETING
Nereid plans to host a regional meeting to discuss USRowing’s proposed membership changes, including the possibility of making individual membership mandatory for all competitive rowers. Area clubs will be invited to attend. Please stand by for a confirmation of the date and time. Read USRowing CEO Glenn Merry’s recent letter on the issue at Nereid’s blog.

LIBATION VESSELS ARRIVE
Nereid mugs have arrived! Club members who ordered the engraved vessels should find them on the bar.
