MEDALS AT SCHUYKILL NAVY

Nereid rowers kicked off a strong sprint season with fine finishes at the Schuylkill Navy Regatta June 18.  Andrea Hurwitz and Petra van Woensel took 2nd in the women’s masters 2x, and placed 1st in the mixed masters 4x with Nereid member Alex van Helden and Teaneck’s Clemens Reinke.  Congrats to Petra and Alex for their first races in Nereid green!

Nereid’s Julian Fernandez took 3rd in the men’s intermediate lightweight 1x final, four seconds ahead of Eric Hagberg, who came in 4th.  Nereid’s Christopher Buesser placed 5th in his men’s intermediate 1x final. Rowing for Carnegie Lake (his second favorite club), Nereid member Joe Oliver earned 2nd in the master’s mixed 2x and 5th in the men’s masters 8+.

Nice job rowers!

ADIOS ADRIAN

All Nereid members are cordially invited to join in what is being billed as “an unforgettable farewell party” in honor of Adrian Nino de Rivera, who is heading off to Charlottesville to row on the Rivanna Reservoir and pursue a University of Virginia MBA in his spare time. The event will be held Saturday, June 25, at 7pm at the boathouse.

Host Dirk Meiwes, who celebrates his birthday on the 25th, will provide drinks. Briant Canha is executive chef of the buffet; please email him at frcaptain@yahoo.com if you want to contribute a favorite dish.

All the best Adrian – Nereid will miss you but hope to see you back in NJ soon!

NEREID THIRD AT NYAC

Nereid came in a strong third place at the 11th annual New York Athletic Club Masters Scullers’ Invitational June 12 in Orchard Beach. Due to last minute scratches, only four Nereid rowers participated, giving a clear advantage to the other two competitors, NYAC and Saugatuck. Nereid’s Charles Johnston took first in his 1x race.  In spite of low Nereid turnout, a good time was had by all!
