NEW DIRECTOR CANDIDATE AND AGM PROXY
The Nereid board of directors has made a last minute change to its list of candidates recommended for election to the board. In place of Bob Hoguet, the board is recommending the election of Nereid member Stacey Ornitz.
The election will take place at Nereid’s Annual General Meeting, Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. Please come!!
Due to a by-laws technicality related to term limits, Bob has withdrawn his candidacy. As board president and board member, Bob has made tremendous contributions, particularly on fundraising, the soft bank project and other initiatives. The club is counting on his continued involvement as a volunteer!
A longtime competitive swimmer, Stacey has immersed herself in rowing in her three seasons with Nereid. She was a member of the Head of the Passaic Regatta committee in 2010 and last year qualified as a USRowing referee. Stacey’s technical and graphic design skills have already led to improvements on Nereid’s website and other communication tools. Stacey stands for election with returning members David Dowd and Peter Willcox.
As always, any member wishing to be considered for the board can place his/her name on the ballot in person at the AGM. Consult Article 6, Section 2 of the bylaws for information on board elections.
If you are not able to attend the meeting, please SEND IN A PROXY VOTE!! You can download the attached proxy, fill it in and email back to nereidsec@hotmail.com. For the signature, type your name or include an electronic signature.
ROWING ALLOWED
Let the season begin!
Now that the river has receded, rowing is allowed according to winter rules. While air temperatures are higher, the water is still cold. As such, no singles rowing is allowed.
An important safety note: please use caution around the Route 3 bridge, as the current is still quite strong as result of spring flows and construction equipment related to the bridge repair.

Dear Members, Friends & Family of Nereid Boat Club,
Please join others down river in supporting the second annual 2011 Passaic River Northern New Jersey Championship Regatta, which takes place Saturday, April 9th. The Henley-style race, exclusively for northern New Jersey high school programs, draws high caliber junior talent to our very own backyard.
Many of you generously take out ad space in the Head of the Passaic program; here is a chance to do that more than once a year! Please contact me at sdornitz@gmail.com to get more information on taking out an ad.
This is also an opportunity to volunteer and get involved with another local race! We are always looking for willing and able hands who would like to spend part of their day on the Passaic. Please use the link to the regatta site above and click on the Volunteer button towards the bottom of the page.
With the aid of a fantastic crew, regatta committee and Powerhouse Timing, we are sure to have a great day of racing on the Passaic. Thanks in advance for your support!
BOAT STORAGE NOTICE
Nereid Captain Sheila O’Shea is updating the club’s boat storage list. If you have a privately-owned boat inside or outside the boathouse, please email her with its location and description at sheila.oshea@comcast.net. Anyone looking for rack space or a new location should also email Sheila.
HOPR COMMITTEE OPENINGS
Andrea Hurwitz and Sheila O’Shea are leading the charge in recruiting Nereid members for the 2011 Head of the Passaic Regatta Committee, which is tentatively scheduled for October 16. Northern New Jersey’s largest rowing event, HOPR entries have more than doubled in recent years. The committee is looking to involve USRowing in hopes of adding to the professionalism and prominence of the event.
The committee, which includes co-organizers from PRRA, meets once a month starting in May, and then weekly after September. Please contact Andrea at flexxmom@aol.com to be part of this great event!
