Let's get involved, get in shape and get Team Nereid top placement in the world ranking!!
Note from the editor: Plans are underway for a Superbowl Erg Party, complete with power 10s for each touchdown…watch this space for more info.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING MARCH 19
Please make a note in your calendar – Nereid’s Annual General Meeting takes place Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. All members are warmly invited and strongly encouraged to attend – we need your participation to move forward on club business including the election of new directors for Nereid’s board.
SOFT BANK CONSTRUCTION DELAYED
Staffing changes and a slow response from the state Department of Environmental Protection are preventing construction on the soft bank project from moving forward this winter. Nereid is still awaiting clearance from DEP on its revised plans, which were submitted in early December.
THANKS TO WINTER CLEAN-UP VOLUNTEERS
Many thanks to the members who turned out January 8th to help winterize the club. They included:
Briant Canha, Adrian DeRivera, Joe DiCristo, Bob Farkas, Ian and Reed Hawkins, Erin Martin, Joe Oliver, Sheila O’Shea, Bonnie Pugel, Gus Stuart, John Van Der Tuin, Peter Willcox and David Wolf. Thanks to Boris for his guidance and to those members who were good enough to de-rig their boats as requested.
Also, a special shout-out to Joe DiCristo for his regular snow-blowing at the Club – that translates to a real savings in our budget.
NEW BOARD MEMBER
At its January 10 meeting, the Nereid board accepted the resignation of Elinor Sprouse, who is relocating to Mexico City, and appointed Andrea Hurwitz to her position. Andrea will assume Elinor’s role as Membership Chair. Many thanks to Elinor for her service, and best of luck in Mexico. Welcome to the board, Andrea!
NEW BABY
Bob O’Connell and his wife Maria recently welcomed the birth of Noreen Bradley O’Connell. She was born January 8th, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 24 inches. As Bob said, “Not bad for being almost one month early; both she and Mom are well.” Congrats to the O’Connells, including big brother Emmett!
ROW NEW YORK HOSTS CONFERENCE
Olympic Rower David Banks will kick off Row New York’s first-ever outreach conference later this month. The event, which costs $100, begins January 22 with a cocktail reception and continues January 23 with a full day of workshops focused on helping clubs expand their programs. Click here for more info.
