YEAR-END APPEAL
Please look out next week for an email in your inbox from the Nereid Secretariat with the club's first annual year-end appeal. We are asking all members to make a tax-deductible donation to the club by December 31 in the hope that we will raise enough to buy a new boat for our fleet. Times are tough but we hope you can be generous If every member contributed just $35, we'd have enough for a gorgeous 1x!

OH WHAT FUN!...
Thanks to all who brought their cheer and good will to Nereid's Holiday Party last weekend! Congrats to Gratia Pelliciotti and Sean Cefalo, the Nereid Women's and Men's Master Rowers of the Year, and to Constance Gill and Ray Longwell, Nereid's Volunteers of the Year. The 2009 mileage awards went to Erik King with 1,995 miles and Andrea Hurwitz with 953 -- well done! Kudos and thanks to Briant Canha and Dan Rouse, our chefs; and Josie DiLena, Carol Davison and Erin Martin, decorators and sous chefs, and to the many others who contributed desserts, moved ergs and furniture, and helped out otherwise! DOCKS OUT NEXT WEEK
With the weather becoming increasingly cold, it is time, sadly, to take the docks out. We expect they will come out someday next week. Squeeze in your last rows of the season this weekend! Please bear in mind the cold weather restrictions: no one should row unaccompanied in weather of 45°F or less, or water temperature of 45°F or less. Check the thermometers by the south bay door and on the dock.

SPEAKING OF TEMPERATURES
The thermostat inside the boathouse should be left at 55 degrees at all times. This temperature is conducive to erging and to Nereid's budget, while also ensuring that the pipes do not freeze. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

WINTER ERG CLASSES
Pull yourself into fitness in 2010 with Nereid's Master's erg training program, which will begin January 2. Coached sessions will be held Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8, 9 and 10, according to level. With sufficient interest, we will hold a weekday session Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 a.m. (A minimum of six rowers is required.) The fee for 10 sessions is $80. Please contact David Dowd at programs@nereidbc.org to sign-up.

LAST CHANCE TO OPT OUT OF DIRECTORY
As reported previously, Nereid is about to publish its 2010 membership directory, which includes names, addresses, emails and phone numbers for all members. If you prefer that your information not be published, please contact nereidjoin@hotmail.com before December 18. The directory will be delivered by email from Phil Gartenberg to members only.

NEED NEREID GEAR?
The club preparing an order for new gear from JL and Boathouse Sports. Items to be ordered include:
Gore Tex jacket for $165
Supplex weathershirt jacket for $115
Headsweat hat for $29
JL long sleeve drywick techshirt for $49
For an additional $5, you can get your name (in one line) on the jacket, either on the sleeve or chest. This is a good way to avoid mix-ups and lost jackets. To place an order, please contact Claire at clairelesley@aol.com ASAP.

The JL Tech Shirt is the mid weight Drywick. Long sleeve with a low t-Neck. Really comfy. In Forest Green with a wide white stripe down both sleeves from the neck. It has a 3"+ embroibered custom Nereid Crest in the center of the chest, in White. That is the circle rope Logo with the trident and the oars. It is on the Uni's, but with a thick white backing. The shirt is White thread directly on the green. More striking and softer. This works as a uniform layer under or over the uni, or alone with a black bottom. I have one that is 10 years old and still looks great. Custom order gear. This is not standard color, but the JL Racing website has others to look at and size measurements as well.

The hat is the white headsweats race cap. It is mesh baseball style and the most comfortable high tech we know of. Also in the JL Websight. It will have a Nereid Log embroidered on the front as well as Nereid boatclub on the back. I like mine because it is never hot, ponytail and laundry friendly, and keeps the little annoying hairs out of my face. Way more comfortable than a headband. It is stretchy and light.

TIME FOR WINTER ERG CHALLENGES!
Concept2 has various ways of helping you keep your training on track this winter. Two options include the Holiday Winter Challenge, which helps raise money for several nonprofits, and the January Virtual Challenge, which is a team event. Join Team Nereid and help the club rack up some kms!

Here's how:
Go to the Concept2 Online Logbook
If you don't have an online logbook, sign up.
Go to the Teams link Click Join Team and select Team Nereid.
Go to the "Team Challenge" sections and confirm your participation in the January Virtual Challenge 2010 that starts in January.
Each time you row on the erg or on the water, log your meters in your online logbook. They will automatically count toward Team Nereid's totals.
